Tighten It Up! – Pastors McLean & Luke Faw

“A widely cited statistic claims that 93% of families follow the spiritual lead of the father when he comes to Christ first.” – Mission Alliance

More recent academic research finds that parents are the single most influential factor in shaping children’s religious lives, with no close competitor Daily Citizen. This influence persists long after children leave home.

Acts 2:42 (NLT) – “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper[i]), and to prayer.”

Acts 2:46 (NLT) – “They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity.”

1.      TIGHTEN IT UP WITH INTENTIONALITY.

Acts 2:42a (NLT) – “All the believers devoted themselves…”

It’s not about being the most spiritual; it’s about being intentional.

Take time to evaluate your experiences as a child in these two areas:  PRESENCE and AFFECTION.

Research at the University of Southern California found that 56% of children with a close relationship with their father share his level of religious commitment, compared to 36% with a weaker relationship. Faithit.com

This closeness can make a 20-point difference in children’s faith seriousness Faithit.com

Deuteronomy 6:6 (NKJV) – “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.”

Deuteronomy 6:7 (NKJV) – “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

Deuteronomy 6:7 (NLT) – “Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.”

3.      TIGHTEN IT UP WITH PRAYER.

Acts 2:42 (NLT) – “All the believers devoted themselves to… PRAYER.”

A 2025 State of Biblical Fatherhood report found that 83% of Christian fathers do not pray regularly with their families.  JubileeCast.

Praying with and praying for family:

James 4:6 (NLT) – “And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”

Psalm 50:15 (NLT) – “Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

4.      TIGHTEN IT UP WITH JOY.

Acts 2:46b (NLT) – “…and shared their meals with great joy and generosity.”
