Incarnational Generations by Pastor Luke Faw

How do you think and feel about other generations (both older and younger)?  Join us Sunday as we explore Christ’s incarnation as an example for our investment in other generations.

  1. GO LOW

Matthew 20:28 (NIV) -- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Ephesians 4:2 (NLT) -- Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

Philippians 2:3 (NIV) -- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

Phil. 2:3b (NLT) -- Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

EMPATHY is the most important leadership skill needed today! - Brigette Hyacinth

“Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care”.

Empathy: emotional heart response, but spirit-led action

  1. STEP INTO THE LIFE OF ANOTHER

John 1:14a (NLT) -- So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness

John 1:14 (MSG) -- The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son,
Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.

Luke 19:41-42 (NLT) –  But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.

Matthew 9:36 (NLT) -- When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Our model of empathy is the incarnation and life of Jesus

John 13:34 (NLT) -- So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

Romans 12: 15 (NLT) -- Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.

  1. LET YOUR HEART CREATE WARMTH

1 Peter 1:22

GOD'S WORD® Translation (© 1995)
Love each other with a warm love that comes from the heart. After all, you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth. As a result, you have a sincere love for each other.

Romans 12:10 (GW) -- Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.

Romans 12:10 (NLT) -- love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other.

Questions for discussion and reflection:

  1. Where does pride slip in easiest in your relationships with others?

  2.  In what relationships do you think of yourself as better than?

  3. Have you ever experienced empathy for someone … feeling deeply for someone else’s experience?

  4. Share a time that you experienced relational warmth.

  5. What might it look like for you to be a warm person to others?
