4.21.2024 | WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

“Spiritual man not just born again but walking in alignment.” Watchman Nee

1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of your Lord Jesus Christ.

1. Right or life

“He came not to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive.” C.S. Lewis

Galatians 5:16 NKJV

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 NLT

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

2. Lead your heart

Proverbs 23:19 NKJV

Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way.

Proverbs 23:26 NLT

O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways.

Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Hebrews 12:2a NLT

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.

3. Live for something bigger

John 10:10b NKJV

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 10:27 NKJV

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Ephesians 6:10 NLT

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power

Body submit to soul, soul submit to spirit, spirit submit to the Spirit of God!

Questions for discussion/reflection:

  1. Can you share a time when you were walking in the Spirit?

  2. Can you share a time when you were walking in the flesh?

  3. What was the “fruit” of those two positions?

  4. What are some keys for walking in the Spirit in your life?

  5. Share some of the things that knock you out of walking in the Spirit, or that make it hard to stay walking in the Spirit?

  6. Do you think you do a good job, in general, of guiding your heart?

  7. When you think about the majority of your life, not in terms of right or wrong, but in terms of being led by the Spirit and living for something bigger than yourself, would you give your life a pass?  Are you at 60%?
