WHO AM I?
Who I really am is who I am in Christ.
My real identity is in Him.
The enemy of our souls wants to rob us of our true identity in Christ.
John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The Holy Spirit wants to bring fresh revelation to us of our true identity in Christ.
1. In Christ, I am a saint.
Ephesians 1:1b (NKJV) To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus.
Saint – Holy, set apart for God, consecrated.
2. In Christ, I am blessed.
Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Psalm 103:2 (NKJV) Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
Psalm 103:3-4 (NKJV) Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
Psalm 103:5 (NKJV) Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s
3. In Christ, I am chosen.
Ephesians 1:4 (NKJV) Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.
4. In Christ, I am adopted.
Ephesians 1:5 (NKJV) Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself.
Ephesians 1:5a (NLT) – God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:15-16 (NKJV) For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
5. In Christ, I am accepted.
Ephesians 1:6 (NKJV) To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Jesus took our rejection upon the cross and offers us His acceptance.
6. In Christ, I am forgiven and free
Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
Colossians 1:13-14(NLT): For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, who has purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
1 John 1:7 (NKJV) But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
7. In Christ, I am stamped with God’s seal of approval
Ephesians 1:13b (NJKV) In whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
Ephesians 1:13b (NLT) – And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom He promised long ago.
Rick Renner – You are approved, endorsed, recognized, affirmed, sanctified, and notarized by the Spirit of God.
Ephesians 1:14(NLT) – The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.
We have a Heavenly Father who loves us! We praise and glorify Him!
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. The world’s identity is based on how we look, what we do, how much we know, and how much we have. Which of these traps have you fallen into in your life?
2. Our true identity is who we are in Christ. Why is it so difficult for us to believe who we are in Christ and live that out?
3. Which of the seven declarations in Ephesians chapter one speaks most powerfully to your heart? Can you explain why?
4. What step is the Holy Spirit impressing upon you to take today to grow in your identity in Christ?
